VI The Lovers
There are so
many things going on in this image that it is hard for me to
find a place to start or to focus on just one. I will start
with the number 6.
The first thing I see in a 6 is the combination of two 3s. The
3 is the number I associate with a trinity or the unmanifested
soul. In the star of David glyph we see two triangles, one
pointing upwards and one downwards. In its most basic sense
this represents the combining of male and female. We often use
triangles to symbolize the elements and within the 6 pointed
star the triangles for all 4 elements can be found. The
triangle can also symbolize the cosmic mountain or pyramid where
all of creation, or the infinity of God is the wide base and its
coagulation into a single individual or a singularity of god or
universe is in the compressed apex. To have these 2 mountains
together is the substance of the creative universe, each
triangle creating the other.
Sex, definitely
a part of this card, is a primal sympathetic act that honors
creation and I find fitting in this card.
The people in
the card are symbolic of Binah (dark mother & number II) and
Chokmah (light father & number I). I did have choice in mind
when making the two women in the card. I intentionally made
them twins with the thought in mind that even though a choice is
present the outer expression does not matter, our relationships
etc. will reflect what we have in our hearts. Also these male
and female energies are possible within ourselves alone. We
only seek in or project onto others or our outer world what we
lack in ourselves. The Lovers is a balancing of the soul by
whatever means you choose.
