Sophie's Tarot
As I was packing for the Bay Area Tarot Symposium that we attended in October, Sophie got so excited about it that she sat down and drew out a whole major arcana.
Now, tarot is not a new thing to her, she has spent her whole 5 years surrounded by it and has watched me paint my tarot images for as long as she can remember (I started when she was only a few months old). She just turned 5 this past Sunday, 11/17, and she decided to add 2 more cards~ the King of Pentacles and the Queen of Wands. I think she will probably finish it eventually as she is very enthusiastic, so much so that I have to make sure that her, her colors or pens, and one of my tarot decks or sketches are never together at the same time! There have been a few incidents!
I am going to post them here and add some narration about what I think of them. Most times she doesn't tell me what she thinks about a particular card and I try not to press her or direct her in any way; I just let her create and it seems to work very well that way.
Over this past summer of 2003 Sophie worked on and finished the Minor Arcana. At first she was calling them Sticks (wands), Cups, Swords, and Stars (pentacles), but by completion she had a change of heart toward the Rider Waite tradition and now titles them Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles.
Here they are:
Wands, Cups, Swords, Pentacles
(Major Arcana is below)
**** I seem to have lost the original comments that I had on this page about the major arcana and what Sophie thought of them when she was creating them. If anyone has a copy, saved the page or has it in their cache files, I would be very grateful to get a copy!!
So here they are, the tarot as seen by a 4-5 year old.
